The top part is good plastic. if it were taken apart, it would be recyclable, but if it were taken to a recycling center it would have to be taken out of the process,” Whalen said.

"I know I’m guilty of thinking I’m just going to throw this away," Duncan said. "But there is no such thing as ‘away’. Everything we throw away goes somewhere and that somewhere is to a landfill. And it’s just gonna sit there. But all of our material that’s collected at a recycling center is gonna go to what’s called a materials-recovery facility. And then they have end-users who take those materials and turn it into something new."

Trace the heart onto the styrofoam and cut it out using a knife or jigsaw. Take the stems off your flowers, then glue the flowers onto the heart. Make it look nice and full — don’t let any of the styrofoam show. You can glue smaller versions of the same flowers to cover the edge of the styrofoam, if you wish. Make an arrow and tail from balsa wood (available at craft stores) using an exacto knife and glue on glitter paper. Glue a cup hook on top of each "hump" of the heart, and hang from some clear fishing line.
