Cutting small strips of washi tape and place them in a repeatable pattern, like plus signs or arrows, gives the effect of a wallpaper without the actual commitment.

Many washi tapes are quite transparent, so you can use a little tag of tape to draw attention to important dates. Try putting down a piece of washi, then using a permanent pen to write on top of it. It brought tears to my eyes when I came across a necklace Dad had given me one year for Christmas. I actually wore this necklace more than anything else I’ve owned and I will forever cherish it.

The things people got stuck up their noses were a rubber band, a butterfly, paint, a vitamin, a cotton ball, and a tree nut.

To start, cut your scrapbooking paper to fit your lighter, and glue securely. Let dry. Next, add your accents. For our first lighter, we upped the glitz of the constellation design by adding rhinestones and pearls atop the paper’s stars. For our second, we overlaid the night sky background with a line of sticker trees to create a forest-scape, then pasted words cut from another sheet of scrapbooking paper on top of the trees. To finish, we coated both lighters thoroughly in Mod Podge to preserve their designs.

Dad, my older brother and I would select just the right cedar for our Christmas tree. After nailing a one-by-eight board on the bottom, we would place it at the special spot beside the piano. Travis Ivey Washi tape may be all the rage for crafters, but artist Travis Ivey has a thing for utility tape, which he often uses to create colorful landscapes of urban and desert settings. See his take on downtown Phoenix, and Arizona’s natural wonders, in his solo exhibition at Shortcut Gallery.
